Under this project NGO Resource Center conducted six three-day trainings on preventing and combating gender-based violence for law enforcement officers from Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Participants included representatives of authorized units of the National Police of Ukraine, prosecutors and local courts from Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The first training in the series, “Legislative mechanisms for preventing and combating domestic violence. The role and functions of interaction subjects”, provided participants with the most comprehensive information about Ukrainian and European legislation on gender-based violence and created a platform for discussing current issues of interagency interaction. The training on “Psychological and behavioral aspects of gender-based violence” focused on the rules of communication with survivors, based on a deeper understanding of the context in which gender-based violence occurs and avoiding possible retraumatization of victims during interactions with law enforcement officers. The third training, dedicated to developing coaching skills for law enforcement officers, helped participants more effectively communicate information about gender-based violence to different audiences in their communities.
Number of beneficiaries: 40
Number of trainings: 6
During the trainings, participants were able to share cases and observations from their own work, learn more about best practices, and discuss the most effective approaches to responding to gender-based violence. Most participants, after completing the training cycle, conducted information events on combating gender-based violence for their law enforcement colleagues or representatives of the community in which they work.
